welding, polishing and lastly bringing the

“As there is not much space given
for public sculptures, it will be hard for
artists to produce such pieces. So for now,
the only way to promote sculptures is to
keep producing and to promote them
via social media networks. This will
subconsciously educate people about art
sculptures. Countries such as Singapore,
Bangkok and Europe are booming with
public sculptures. There is a much greater
appreciation for art sculptures over there,”
said Nizam.

“There should bemore events that promote
art sculptures. I would love to do it and
to have Malaysia appreciate public art
sculptures everywhere be it at a shopping
malls, cafes, restaurants or even parks.
This will support not only me, but also
local artists.”
Nizam also holds workshop and art
classes for metal sculptures at his studio.

Public art sculptures
Regulars at the Publika shopping mall will
have probably noticed the playground
sculpture. Nizam and his team at Nizam-
sculpture Studio designed it and they are
very pleased with the support that the
mall has shown its for public sculptures.
Nizamsculpture Studio has also designed
other sculptures for Publika such as the
red tall human figure, Publika’s 2014’s
Christmas tree and the recent sculpture
for a cool shipping container recycled as
a cafe bar known as bxieBlonde.
“I am usually inspired by my sur-
roundings, as cliched as that sounds.
Society inspires me - the architecture,
landscape - as they always follow you
around,” adds Nizam.
Nizam is inspired by Raja Shahriman,
another sculpture artist, for his strength
and discipline in doing his sculptures.
“He amazes me because his work is
courageous,” said Nizam.
Process of metal sculptures
The whole process of metal sculptures
begins with an idea which then leads
to material consultation. The client and
Nizamwould then decide on the finishing
and his teamwill source out the materials.
Once that is done, the process goes on to
