Actress/singer
Chelsia Ng
opens up about being a part
of a successful play and travelling to her “most favourite
place on earth”.
M
alaysia
is known
for its undeniable
talent in the enter-
tainment world.
From singing to
acting and the art
of filmmaking, her
homegrown artists have graced not only
the local the international entertainment
scene with pure talent. Chelsia Ng is a
talented singer/actress from Penang who
has been in the industry for years, with
her most memorable role being in
Hai Ki
Xin Lor,
a local stage production. Fireflyz
chats with Chelsia Ng about her about
her constant travelling and latest project.
Penang girl
Born and raised in Penang, she was
one half of the duo
Indecisive,
who
sang the title theme for hit local sitcom
Kopitiam.
She also acted in local movies
like
Papadom, Salon
and
Tanda Putera.
When asked to describe herself, Ng
identified herself as just like any other
true-blue Penang-ite who loves her street
food and believes that durians are a girl’s
best friend.
Having acted in quite a number of
sitcoms, movies and plays, Ng still cannot
decide which one she finds most fulfill-
ing. “I believe it’s always the people you
work with that make that difference. The
energy that you receive and the energy
that you put in make a project magical
and fulfilling. More often, that is easier to
achieve with theater productions because
of the amount of time the actors and the
team spend together. Acting in front of a
live audience is very different from acting
in front of a camera.”
Hai Ki Xin Lor
(You Mean The World
to Me), a play that was staged at the
George Town Festival 2014, was a play
that involved a lot of firsts for her. It
was her first time doing a play in Penang
Hokkien, her first involvement in the
George Town Festival and also her first
time in a site-specific play in Penang.
