discovers glorious
British-style pies at GravyBaby.
I
n
suburban Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur, Gra-
vyBaby lights up the night with a neon signboard
and glitzy interior that is adorned with light bulbs.
The eatery is renowned for serving eight types of
sumptuous pies, using recipes that have come all
the way from Britain.
The chef, who had previously worked for the British
military, can be seen making the pies in the open
kitchen, which also functions as a culinary school.
Trainee chefs can be seen hard at work learning the
secrets of making the tantalising food that is served
here.
House Specialities
Each pie (RM20) is served with a choice of these
gravies:
Original British Meat, Traditional Vegetable
or
Traditional London East End Parsley Liquor
. At
an additional RM6, you can create your own pie and
mash, using beans or mint-infused peas.
Despite its extensive menu, I decided to try the
house specialities. The
Slow Cooked Steak & Wild
MushroomPie
did not disappoint, being filled with
generous portions of chunky, juicy steak and
button mushrooms. The Lamb & Redcurrent
Hotpot Pie had wonderful pieces of lamb and
the redcurrent served as a delicious contrast
to the flavour of the meat. The portions were
generous and delectable to the last bite.
For dessert, go for the Banana and Cream
Wonderful Waffles – a hit among many
customers. With fluffy and light crispy edges,
the waffles are loaded with sliced banana,
maple syrup, coconut whipped cream and
chocolate powder. It was a perfect sweet
ending for my meal here.
