IslamicArtsMuseum
The Islamic ArtsMuseumwhich is Southeast
Asia’s largestmuseumof Islamic arts, houses
more than 70,000 artefacts fromthe global
Islamic world. It is widely known as one of the
best attractions Kuala Lumpur has to offer.
The area is adornedwithmassive open
spaces and glass walls that permit plenty
of natural light which bestows a sense of
tranquillity and peace to visitors as they enter
themuseum. Special exhibitions which are
only held for up to sixmonths are displayed at
the temporary galleries located on the first and
second levels. The best part is that the topics
are not only restricted to Islamic Arts, but touch
on other aspects of arts and history as well.
NationalMonument ofMalaysia
TheNational Monument is a sculpture that
commemorates thosewho died inMalaysia’s
struggle for freedom, principally against the
Japanese occupation duringWorldWar II and
theMalayan Emergency, which lasted from1948
until 1960.
Situated in Lake Gardens, it is a commemora-
tive sculpture that stands on amarble base
surrounded by a reflecting pool andwater
fountains. The bronze sculpture depicts a group
of seven soldiers in various poses, each denoting
one of seven qualities: courage, leadership,
sacrifice, strength, suffering, unity and vigilance.

it is 15meters tall
it is theworld’s tallest free-standing bronze
sculpture.
NationalMuseumofMalaysia
Built in 1963, theNational Museumof Malaysia
provides an excellent introduction toMalaysia’s
history, economy, geography, arts, crafts and
culture. The building has a sweeping, traditional
Minangkabau-style roof and amain entrance
flanked by two largemurals of Italian glassmosaic
that portray the country’smajor historical events
and cultural activities.
Much of theNational Museum’s original
collection of artworks was razed during aWorld
War II bombing event but themuseumstill has an
extensive ethnographic and archaeological exhibit
on display. Its impressive collection starts out on the
ground floor with life-sized dioramas of ritual wed-
dings, traditional Malaysian life like fishing, farming
andweaving taking place in kampung settings and
even one of aMalay circumcision ceremony.
Wander around KL Sentral and be swept up in the
beauty and history that permeates the area. It really
is quite spectacular.
