Not to bemissed is a tour around the
Sahakari Spice Farm. An English speaking
guidewill walk you around the garden,
pointing out different spices growing
wild and their health benefits and uses. In
Indiamoney real does growon trees with
black pepper providing a source of income
to the locals. Youmay also find a stray
elephant lying on its side bathing in the
cool water whilst basking in the heat
After your spice tour, delve deeper
into themystique by trying an Ayuverdic
massage. Amixture of medicated oils are
used for a normal massage but the effects
may leave you feeling almost intoxicated
as they take effect on your body andmind.
Go one step further by trying Shirodhara,
a process of gently pouring oils over your
forehead. Thismay leave youwith a new
sense of well-being.
Even if it is late night partying you crave
on a trip to India, there are still quiet
places to go and relax after all that. The
backwaters of Kerala andGoa offer you a
quietly spicy alternative.

backwaters.

GoGoa
If you have time to explore, why not try a
second destination on your trip and visit the
quieter parts of Goa, the ancient Portuguese
colony on the SouthWest Coast of India.
Famous for party goers and back packers
for the last fewdecades, Goa is synonymous
with hippies and late nights. Bogmalo
beach, just South of Goa Airport, offers a
quiet escape fromwhich to explore the Old
City.
You can enjoy a refreshing earlymorning
stroll along the beach, dodging the holy
cows resting in the sun, then go scuba
diving. Do not expect toomuch - as even
though the dive centre is of international
standard - the dive experience is not.
Take a short taxi ride intoOldGoa and
visit one ormore of themanymuseums
where you can learn about the history of the
Portuguese explorers and the colonisation
which began in the 15th Century and lasted
until 1961, leaving a significant legacy.
After gazing at the inspiring portraits
of the early Portuguese explorers, why
not try another lesser known spicy
curry. The local restaurantmenus are as
complex and abundant in choice as in
Kerala. Xacuti (Sha-Ku-Tee) is another
curry that stands out and it originated
inGoa. Awonderfully complexmixture
with hints of anise and nutmeg, this
currymay leave a slightly sharp taste on
your palate.
