Malaysia Percussion Festival 2017

The Malaysia Percussion Fes-
tival (MPF) aims to provide a
creative environment where
people from all walks of life,
with various skill levels and
cultural backgrounds can
gather to explore, innovate,
educate and build a com-
munity together.
MPF also seeks to create
a culture that promotes overall wellness in terms of thinking skills,
communication skills, organising skills, and rhythmic skills. We hope to
bridge musical traditions through innovative collaborations.
This year’s festival includes artiste concerts, numerous workshops,
ensemble performances, ensemble experience, clinics, community
drumming, outdoor marching percussion talk and competitions. By
Love Story participating in the workshops and concerts, one is able to open up

Love Story is a musical written by Stephen
Clark with music by Howard Goodall and
lyrics by Clark and Goodall. It is inspired
by Erich Segal’s best-selling novel and the PETRUSHKA!
hit movie (in the 70s) of the same name. June 9-10, Dewan
The musical tells of Oliver Barrett IV, a rich Filharmonik Petronas,
young man, who falls in love with Jennifer Kuala Lumpur
Cavilleri, a poor music student. They marry
against his family’s wishes and struggle English conductor
to build their life together despite being Mark Wigglesworth
disowned by Oliver’s wealthy father. But and Serbian violinist
then, fate has other plans. Nemanja Radulović join
forces in Tchaikovsky’s
super-popular Violin Concerto, music that is by turns hyper emotional
and passionate yet reflective and introspective, hence in many ways
reflecting the life of the man who wrote it. Stravinsky’s Petrushka,
another audience favourite, is a wildly colourful ballet score filled with
picturesque details – some riotously flamboyant, some exquisitely
beautiful – depicting a puppet show at a carnival scene in a 19th
century Russian village. Fairytale music by Ravel opens the programme.
