Day 3: Hang that Bike Please!
Dreading my third and final day due to
the excessive aching, I braved up and
rode my way to Kak Yah Masak Lemak
Cili Api for a dose of spiciness. And spicy
was exactly what I got. The light yellow
coloured gravy that showered the red snap-
per may lookmild in colour, but as soon as
it touches your tongue, the heat shoots up
in your mouth, accompanied by a burst of
flavours. Other dishes served at this store
were grilled beef, pepper fried eel, fried
chicken and many more – I promise you
will not run out of choices, but choosing
what to eat may cause a headache too.
Our final stop before heading back to
the city centre was the Pengkalan Kubor
Duty Free Zone for some shopping. Then
was
sambal belacan
. The spiciness of
the
sambal
mixed with the sourness of
the mango was the perfect match up to
complete the meal.
My final ride before heading to the
airport was around the Kota Bharu Tour-
ism Zone where amazing structures like
the Petra Arch, the Grand Palace, the Jahar
Palace and the Islamic Museum is located.
Then came time to say goodbye to
the food haven. Half-heartedly I packed
my bags and boarded my ride to the
airport – satisfied with the amount of food
I’ve devoured over the span of three days.
Going home a happy camper, I definitely
look forward for another food adventure
in the near future ... without the cycling if
possible. Just kidding!
it was time to hang the bike up on the
van for our transfer back to the city, but
not without making a quick stop at Roti
Tempayan Che Anie and a roadside stall
selling
bahulu, akok
and
beko
, a chewy
sweet treat made from coconut.
When we got into town, lunch was
served at Nasi Ulam Cikgu in Kampung
Kraftangan Kota Bharu (craft village). Not
a fan of vegetables, I still enjoyed the food
here as the fried catfish that was served
was simply delicious. As usual, a gravy
dish accompanies the rest, but the
gulai
here tasted a little different – less sweet
and slightly spicier – with a slightly clear
appearance too. My personal favourite
was the local “salad”, whichwas chopped
mango drizzled in spicy dressing that
