Georgetown Festival
The Georgetown Festival in Penang is a
month-long celebration dedicated to the
art industry with showcases consisting
of art, music, theatre, dance, opera and
film. It started out as a series of cultural
events to celebrate the city’s listing as
a UNESCO heritage site in 2008 and
then saw its first festival launch in 2010.
This artsy festival turns the culturally-
rich city into a beautiful canvas with
performance venues ranging from halls
and auditoriums to five-foot ways and
sidewalk galleries, bringing out a great
sense of appreciation in audience and
attracting both local and international
guest.
With a total of 56 programmes on their
plate this year, you can indulge in a wide
variety of creative and performing arts
this August; some free and some requiring
tickets. Among the highlights for this
year include “My George Town: A Public
Space Project”, which documents the
daily rhythms of the George Town World
Heritage Site, captured in stunning photo
and immersive 360° media and Unpack-
Repack: A Tribute To Ismail Hashim
(1940–2013) that features the works of
acclaimedMalaysian photographer, Ismail

Art Osaka
Establishing its 12th year in the visual arts industry this year, Art Osaka is a two-day
event featuring beautiful masterpieces in the formof paintings, photography, sculptures
and video installations. Be awed and blown away by themagnificent artwork of talented
artist from around the globe as you take in portraits, urban landscapes, abstract pieces
and other brilliant creations.
This year, Art Osaka is held in Hotel Granvia Osaka on July 12 and 13, where 53
hotel rooms are temporarily transformed into sophisticated galleries for easy and
comfortable viewing. Some of the showcased talents include a collaborationwith Kyoto
City University of Arts, textured art by Mariella Mosler & Ueda Rikuo, ‘Silent World’
by Lucie& Simon; recipient of the Art Osaka Prize in 2013 and many other artists. Find
